Flat Tank Heads

Flat Tank Heads provide a shallow closure for equipment ends, inspection openings, and small vessel sections where a deep curved profile is unnecessary.
The selected FHA relationship uses DN = Di, H = ri + h, and a transition radius no smaller than three nominal thicknesses.

Description

The closure has a flat center with a rounded edge or formed flange that meets the vessel shell. Flat Tank Heads can be produced from carbon steel, stainless steel, SA516 Gr70, or SA516 Gr60. Depending on the connection, the head may be welded in place, machined for a gasket face, or prepared for a removable assembly. Cutting, forming, drilling, beveling, and attachment work can be completed before shipment. Manways, drains, instrument openings, lifting points, and machining allowance are added from the approved drawing. Final thickness and reinforcement remain part of the vessel design. During packing, the machined or gasket surface can be covered separately from the general steelwork.

Components

A flat plate region closes the equipment end.

The edge may include a transition radius, flange, weld land, or machined face.

Bolt holes, gasket surfaces, or circumferential bevels are produced where specified.

Manways, drains, nozzles, and handling points can be incorporated into Flat Tank Heads for the intended assembly.

Product Advantages

  • The shallow form limits the extra length added to the vessel or access opening.
  • Drilling, machining, edge preparation, and attachment work can be completed before delivery.
  • A broad flat surface can simplify access, internal mounting, or removable-cover arrangements.
  • Material, thickness, and connection details can be coordinated with the shell, gasket, bolts, or welding procedure. Protective covers can be added over finished faces during transport.

For removable arrangements, protective covers can be added over machined faces so they remain clean during transport.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q: Can a flat closure be used on any pressure vessel?

A: No. Pressure, diameter, support, thickness, reinforcement, and the applicable design rules must be checked.

Q: Can a gasket face and bolt pattern be machined?

A: Yes. The facing, hole pattern, tolerance, and surface requirement should be shown on the drawing.

Q: What information is needed for Flat Tank Heads?

A: Provide closure type, diameter, material, thickness, transition detail, weld or bolt arrangement, openings, quantity, and inspection scope.
